OTTERLAND
Game rules & season rewards
OTTERLAND is a seasonal fishing game built around the Lost Otters collection. Send your Otter NFTs on expeditions from four island piers, collect fish and chests, complete quests, and earn season points toward a share of the reward pool.
This whitepaper describes the Fishing v1 rules and the planned live season model. The collection has not yet been minted. After mint, NFT ownership checks, fee collection, and reward transfers will be tested with the real collection. The Season 1 start date will be announced through the project's official account after testing.
The game & participation
Connected to the collection
The target network is Robinhood Chain. Access to the live game requires an eligible collection NFT in your connected wallet. NFT identity and rarity are taken from verified collection records. The planned game address is play.lostotters.xyz; the collection website is lostotters.xyz.
An Otter can have only one active expedition at a time. Different Otters can take separate expeditions, each with its own fee, duration, and result. Holding more NFTs does not stack rarity bonuses on a single expedition. More NFTs and expeditions may increase your opportunity to earn total points.
An expedition in five steps
- Choose an available Otter and a pier.
- Select Worm, Shrimp, or Mussel bait and a duration of 1, 3, or 6 hours.
- Review the fee and probabilities. Your expedition starts once payment is verified.
- When the expedition ends, view the catch on the Reveal screen.
- Use Claim to collect the fish and points. Any chest found is opened and claimed separately.
Reveal shows the result; Claim adds it to your season record. This in-game collection is separate from the monetary transfer to your wallet at the end of the season. Refreshing the page or reopening the result screen does not generate a new catch.
What you are playing for
Discover the fish book, try different routes, and earn valid season points. Points have no fixed monetary value. A rare NFT, more expensive bait, or a longer expedition does not guarantee a particular fish, leaderboard position, or monetary return. Season rewards depend on the size of the pool and the points earned by other eligible players.
Piers & expedition fees
Each pier has a different catch profile. Reed Cove always returns a full catch; Black Rock has low variability, North Lighthouse has medium variability, and Sunset Harbor has higher variability. A pier's rarity label does not mean it only produces fish of that rarity.
Current fee schedule
Amounts are reference game fees in USD. Each cell lists Worm / Shrimp / Mussel, in that order. The on-chain payment asset, exact amount, and any currency conversion will be shown at checkout. Network transaction fees are not included in the game fee.
| Pier | 1 hour | 3 hours | 6 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reed Cove | 0.50 / 0.70 / 0.90 | 1.38 / 1.58 / 1.78 | 2.50 / 2.70 / 2.90 |
| Black Rock | 0.80 / 1.10 / 1.40 | 2.20 / 2.50 / 2.80 | 4.00 / 4.30 / 4.60 |
| North Lighthouse | 1.10 / 1.50 / 1.90 | 3.03 / 3.43 / 3.83 | 5.50 / 5.90 / 6.30 |
| Sunset Harbor | 1.40 / 1.90 / 2.40 | 3.85 / 4.35 / 4.85 | 7.00 / 7.50 / 8.00 |
Catch size & risk
| Duration | Full catch | Reduced catch | Empty catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | 1 fish | Not applicable | 0 fish |
| 3 hours | 3 fish | 1 or 2 fish | 0 fish |
| 6 hours | 6 fish | 3, 4, or 5 fish | 0 fish |
The cells below also follow the Worm / Shrimp / Mussel order. Reduced and full catch columns apply to 3- and 6-hour expeditions. On a 1-hour expedition, a non-empty result is one fish.
| Pier profile | Empty catch | Reduced catch | Full catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common · Reed Cove | 0% / 0% / 0% | 0% / 0% / 0% | 100% / 100% / 100% |
| Rare · Black Rock | 1% / 1% / 0.5% | 10% / 10% / 8% | 89% / 89% / 91.5% |
| Epic · North Lighthouse | 2% / 2% / 1% | 18% / 18% / 14% | 80% / 80% / 85% |
| Legendary · Sunset Harbor | 4% / 4% / 2% | 28% / 28% / 22% | 68% / 68% / 76% |
Within a reduced catch, each possible fish count is equally likely. For example, Sunset Harbor with Mussel bait on a 6-hour expedition returns six fish with a 76% probability, three to five fish with a 22% probability, and zero fish with a 2% probability. The chest check is independent: an expedition can find a chest even if it returns without fish.
Current fish rarity probabilities for the selected route, bait, duration, and NFT are shown before payment. More effective bait does not always mean the highest chance of a Legendary fish. Once an expedition starts, its recorded fee, probabilities, and scoring rules do not change.
NFT rarity & fish points
NFT rarity and fish rarity are separate concepts. Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary Otters slightly influence the probabilities of the five fish rarities. The same fish awards the same points for every Otter.
How Otter rarity works
| Otter | Fish weight coefficient | Chest chance multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Common | k = 0 | 1.00 |
| Rare | k = 0.01 | 1.03 |
| Epic | k = 0.02 | 1.06 |
| Legendary | k = 0.03 | 1.10 |
The fish rarity index is 0 for Common, 1 for Uncommon, 2 for Rare, 3 for Epic, and 4 for Legendary. Each base weight is multiplied by 1 + k × rarity index, then the results are normalized to total 100%. This gives higher rarities a small probability advantage. These coefficients do not add percentage points directly and do not multiply a player's score.
The chest bonus is a relative increase. On a route with a 4% base chest chance, a Rare NFT produces a 4.12% chance, Epic 4.24%, and Legendary 4.40%. The Legendary bonus does not increase the chance to 14%.
Only the Otter sent on the expedition provides the bonus. NFT rarity does not change the expedition fee, duration, full or reduced catch counts, or the risk of returning empty. An extra fish inside a chest does not receive a second NFT bonus.
Under Fishing v1 rules, the expected combined fish and chest score for the same route increases by approximately 0.49–1.14% for Rare, 0.98–2.25% for Epic, and 1.52–3.41% for Legendary, compared with a Common NFT. These are long-term mathematical averages, not guaranteed increases for an individual expedition or monetary reward. Quest and check-in points are excluded from this comparison.
Fish catalog
| Fish rarity | Species | Points per fish |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 20 | 10–20 |
| Uncommon | 20 | 25–45 |
| Rare | 15 | 60–100 |
| Epic | 10 | 150–250 |
| Legendary | 10 | 400–600 |
The catalog contains 75 species. Each species has a fixed point value; catching the same fish again does not roll a new value. Points from expedition fish are added together. The fish book shows the species and quantities collected during the current season.
Exclusive catches or event access for Legendary NFTs are not defined benefits in this version. Any additional privileges will be announced separately if developed. After mint, NFT rarity will come from the real collection's verified metadata records.
Daily check-in & quests
Daily check-in awards 20 points once per eligible player profile. Holding more NFTs does not increase the number of check-ins. A streak indicator is available, but longer streaks do not award extra points. The daily reset is at 15:00 UTC.
Each day during an active season offers three quests: a starter objective, a pier or bait objective, and a variable objective. Every player sees the same daily quest set. Refreshing the page does not change it.
Daily quest pool
| Objective | Points |
|---|---|
| Start 1 expedition | 10 |
| Claim 1 fish | 10 |
| Complete 1 expedition at the day's pier | 15 |
| Complete 1 expedition using the day's bait | 15 |
| Catch and claim 3 different fish species | 20 |
| Catch the specified Rare / Epic / Legendary fish | 20 / 25 / 35 |
| Complete the specified 1 / 3 / 6-hour expedition | 10 / 15 / 20 |
The three daily quests award 35–60 points in total, depending on the selected objectives. Including check-in, the daily total can reach 55–80 points. One expedition can advance multiple objectives; the same quest reward cannot be claimed twice.
Season quests
The quest set is designed for a weekly play schedule and restarts with each new season. Maintenance days between seasons do not award new quest or check-in points.
| Objective | Points |
|---|---|
| Complete and claim 15 expeditions | 50 |
| Claim 50 fish from expeditions | 75 |
| Complete at least 1 expedition at each of the four piers | 40 |
| Catch and claim 5 Rare or higher fish | 50 |
| Earn a total of 1,000 points from expedition fish | 75 |
This set awards 290 points in total. Quest rewards must be claimed separately after the objective is completed. Chest, check-in, and quest bonuses do not themselves fulfill expedition fish objectives or the 1,000 fish-point objective.
An empty catch can still advance completed-expedition, pier, bait, and duration objectives, but not fish-count, species, or rarity objectives. Start time applies to expedition-start objectives; return time applies to completion objectives. The relevant claim action is still required.
Daily rewards must be claimed within their own period. Final claim rules for catches, chests, and quests at season close are explained in the season schedule. Holding an old reward does not turn it into new-season points.
Chests & extra rewards
Each pier offers its own chest. An expedition can find at most one chest. A discovered chest appears on the catch screen and enters your inventory when the expedition is claimed. Opening a chest and claiming its contents are separate actions.
Finding a chest
The table below shows base probabilities for a Common NFT. Rare, Epic, and Legendary NFTs apply the 1.03 / 1.06 / 1.10 multipliers described above. Bait does not affect chest probability.
| Pier & chest | 1 hour | 3 hours | 6 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reed Cove · Pier Chest | 12% | 17.45% | 27.35% |
| Black Rock · Tide Chest | 8% | 11.76% | 18.82% |
| North Lighthouse · Crystal Vault | 4% | 5.94% | 9.70% |
| Sunset Harbor · Heart of the Ocean | 1.50% | 2.24% | 3.71% |
Probabilities are rounded to two decimal places. Longer expeditions increase chest probability, but the increase is not linear with the number of hours. Finding a chest is independent of whether the expedition returns with fish.
What is inside
| Chest profile | Bonus points | Chance of one extra fish |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 10–20 | 35% |
| Rare | 25–45 | 45% |
| Epic | 60–90 | 60% |
| Legendary | 180–250 | 75% |
Every chest awards bonus points within the stated range. If it contains an extra fish, that fish's catalog points are added to the bonus. A chest awards at most one extra fish; a chest without a fish still awards bonus points.
Rarity of the extra fish
This distribution applies only when a chest contains an extra fish.
| Chest | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 80% | 18% | 2% | 0% | 0% |
| Rare | 20% | 60% | 19% | 1% | 0% |
| Epic | 0% | 20% | 60% | 19% | 1% |
| Legendary | 0% | 0% | 55% | 40% | 5% |
For example, a Legendary chest has a 75% chance of an extra fish, with a 5% chance that this fish is Legendary. Opening that chest therefore has a 3.75% chance of awarding a Legendary fish. The probability of finding the chest on the expedition applies separately.
Contents are fixed on the first opening; reopening does not change the result. Each chest can be claimed once. Points and fish belong to the season in which they were earned and cannot be saved to generate points in the next season.
Season calendar & history
OTTERLAND runs in separate seasons. The start, expedition cutoff, final claim deadline, and reward schedule are announced before a season opens. A weekly play schedule is planned, with possible maintenance breaks between seasons. Ending one season does not automatically start the next.
Expedition cutoffs
An expedition cannot finish after the season closes. Longer duration options close in order as the remaining time decreases. Payment quote validity follows the same limit; keeping an old screen open does not entitle a player to purchase an expedition after its cutoff.
The following is an example schedule for a Sunday 15:00 UTC close. Actual dates and times will be provided in each season announcement. All times below are UTC.
| Event | Time (UTC) |
|---|---|
| New 6-hour expeditions close | Sunday 09:00 |
| New 3-hour expeditions close | Sunday 12:00 |
| New 1-hour expeditions close | Sunday 14:00 |
| Season gameplay ends | Sunday 15:00 |
Finalizing results
After close, no new paid expeditions, check-ins, or quest progress become available. The site displays the Season ended state and leaderboard. If a final claim window has been announced, only entitlements earned before close can be collected under those rules. The length of this window has not yet been set and will be announced before the first paid season opens.
Rankings remain provisional until final claims and record checks are complete. Season results and the distribution list are then finalized. Later archive views or claims do not change the finalized payout list. The appeals channel and review schedule will be included in the season announcement.
Maintenance & the next season
The team may schedule a maintenance break to prepare rewards or deploy updates. If the next season's date is not set, a Season 2 coming soon message is shown. A countdown appears once a date is announced. The team can start a season immediately or schedule the announced start time; changes will be communicated to players.
What resets & what stays
A new season starts from zero for points, rankings, season quests, reward eligibility, and the seasonal fish book. Profile identity, wallet connection, and historical records are retained. Current NFT ownership is verified for new actions.
Each season's expeditions, collected fish, points, final rankings, and reward transaction records are archived separately. Previous-season points or chests do not enter the new leaderboard. Financial carryover applies only to the reward pool calculation.
The season reward pool
A single game fee contract is planned to allocate expedition fees across five purposes: 70% for leaderboard rewards, 5% for the Top 50 bonus, 10% carried over to the next season, 5% for game development and maintenance, and 10% for the team. The reward wallet receives 85% in total, covering current-season player rewards and next-season carryover.
Allocation of new revenue
| Purpose | Share of new revenue |
|---|---|
| Leaderboard rewards, proportional to eligible player points | 70% |
| Top 50 bonus | 5% |
| Carryover to the next season | 10% |
| Game Development & Maintenance | 5% |
| Team | 10% |
| Total | 100% |
The current-season player allocation is 75% of new revenue: 70% for the main leaderboard pool and 5% for the additional Top 50 pool. The 5% Game Development & Maintenance allocation supports game updates, infrastructure, and ongoing technical maintenance. Each allocation is calculated directly from new revenue.
Pool calculation
H is the season's total finalized, valid expedition fees. D is the carryover from the previous season. Network transaction fees are excluded from H. Technical cancellations and refunds are disclosed in the closing calculation; wallet balances must be reconciled with refund obligations before distribution.
| Allocation | Formula |
|---|---|
| Main pool | 0.70 × H + D |
| Top 50 pool | 0.05 × H |
| Total allocated to players | 0.75 × H + D |
| New carryover | 0.10 × H |
| Game Development & Maintenance | 0.05 × H |
| Team share | 0.10 × H |
Previous carryover is added entirely to the main leaderboard pool without further development, team, or carryover deductions. D may be zero in the first season.
Worked example
If H = 10 ETH and D = 1 ETH, the main leaderboard pool is 8 ETH and the Top 50 pool is 0.5 ETH. Players receive a total allocation of 8.5 ETH. New carryover is 1 ETH, Game Development & Maintenance receives 0.5 ETH, and the team share is 1 ETH. ETH is used only as a calculation example here; the live payment and reward asset will be confirmed in the launch announcement.
The pool shown in-game
The season reward pool is calculated from season records; the reward wallet balance shows the total on-chain balance. They are displayed separately. An old unpaid entitlement, funds belonging to another season, or an external transfer do not automatically count as new-season revenue.
Collection trading volume, uncollected royalties, and expected mint revenue are not included in the finalized pool. If additional funding is used, its amount and allocation will be announced separately. Displayed figures include the last update time and payment asset.
Reward eligibility & payouts
To qualify for distribution, a wallet must have at least 200 valid points and at least one completed and claimed valid expedition in the same season. A completed expedition with zero fish may satisfy the expedition requirement; the 200-point requirement still applies. Check-in alone is not enough.
Your share of the main pool
The main reward is calculated using only the total points of eligible players. Ineligible accounts are excluded from the denominator. Each eligible wallet appears once; the number of NFTs does not create a separate reward entitlement.
Player's main reward = main pool × player's points ÷ total eligible player points
For example, with an 8 ETH main pool, 1,000,000 total eligible points, and 10,000 player points, the main reward is 0.08 ETH. Any Top 50 bonus is added separately. The same score may earn different rewards in different seasons.
Top 50 bonus & special cases
The Top 50 pool provides an additional payment to the highest-ranked eligible players, on top of the main reward. Rank-by-rank shares, tied scores, and the tie rule at 50th place have not yet been finalized. These rules will be published through official channels before Season 1 starts.
Under the current calculation model, if there are no eligible players, the entire player allocation is added to the new carryover. If there is only one eligible player, the entire player pool is allocated to that wallet. Amounts are calculated in the payment asset's smallest unit; rounding differences are distributed without exceeding the total budget.
Team-approved transfers
Once a season is finalized, the team reviews and approves the distribution list. The required reward amount is transferred to a separate distribution wallet; the tool sends transfers from the approved list and tracks their receipts. Carryover for the next season stays in the reward wallet. The gas budget and funding for technical refunds will be explained separately in the live distribution policy.
The distribution list includes the season, network, reward asset, wallet address, points, rank, main reward, Top 50 bonus, total amount, and payment status. A transaction link is added after transfer. A new payment is not generated while an existing transaction is awaiting confirmation. Interrupted distributions resume after reconciliation with the records.
Players are not expected to make a separate on-chain claim for monetary rewards. Payment depends on team approval and the distribution process; game results and rankings are calculated on the server. The system therefore does not claim to be fully on-chain or trustless.
Going live
Before Season 1, the official collection and fee contract addresses, payment asset, ownership and NFT transfer rules, season schedule, Top 50 allocation, refund terms, and appeals process will be published. In addition to testnet trials and security checks, NFT ownership, fee collection, and reward transfers will be tested with the real collection after mint. The start date will then be announced through the project's official account. Season rewards will be calculated from verified game and payment records.
